Queen size: 10-12mm 
Worker size: 4-8mm. 
Diet: Insects, fruit, honey.
Habitat: Urban, stones, soil. Mainly woodland. 
Region: Europe, Southern Asia, Africa
​Nuptial Flight: July-August

 

These ants are known as slave ants. They are larger than the common black ant (Lasius Niger). Being a formica species, they spray formic acid from their gasters. An easy species to keep. Require a high protein diet, but a balance of protein and sugar is ideal.
